GE Hitachi, the American firm that was selected by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and SaskPower to build the first small modular reactors (SMRs) in both of those provinces, hired three StrategyCorp lobbyists to discuss “GE Hitachi's efforts to develop a Small Modular Reactor” in New Brunswick with 24 different government officials.
SMRs are a type of nuclear reactor that proponents argue are smaller, safer and faster to build than traditional reactors. Some provinces are making a push to adopt SMRs as a way to address growing energy needs, with less carbon emissions than other energy sources.
