Coca-Cola, the NHL and a slew of other food and advertising industry lobbyists are fighting a proposed federal law banning companies from advertising unhealthy food to children under 13.

The two companies are up against some of the country’s leading charities, including the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. The charities are concerned that constant exposure to unhealthy food ads is leading to a rise in childhood obesity and diabetes. Industry lobbyists against the new bill argue they can protect children without new laws.
