A 2023 briefing note from the Department of National Defence (DND) tacitly argues that Canada should join an integrated ballistic missile defence (BMD) system with the United States — in a similar fashion to Donald Trump’s proposed Golden Dome — as the current arrangement with the U.S. is unviable due to new missile technology.

The document alludes to “the growing need for Canada to adopt an integrated and comprehensive approach to missile defence” and “the potential need to review Canada's policy on North American BMD.”
