In its first seven years of existence, an Edmonton charity called the Chomyn-Hunt Foundation spent its money on actual charity just once, according to an audit by Canada’s federal tax body.
That single act of philanthropy was a $5,600 donation to a Catholic church in smalltown Alberta in 2017. That was just a fifth of what the organization was legally required to spend on charity that year, according to a 2024 letter from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) recently made public by the Blumbergs law firm.
