Sav Jonsa

Sav Jonsa is a Winnipeg-based journalist focused on Indigenous affairs. They began their journalism career at APTN National News in 2022, and joined the IJF as an Indigenous Media Fellow to grow their skills in investigative reporting. Sav is passionate about how government policy and colonial priorities continue to affect Indigenous Peoples and, importantly, how centuries of First Nations, Inuit and Métis resistance prove we can affect them as well. They are a Two-Spirit Michif with maternal roots in the Parisien family of St. Norbert, Winnipeg. They’re also English and Irish through their mother and Hungarian through their father. They are grateful to still be residing in the heart of the Red River Métis homeland, where their ancestors fought in the Victory of Frog Plain and the Red River Resistance. Sav sees journalism as another tool for bringing colonial powers to account and continuing the fight against corruption. Jonsa is an award-winning reporter, and was a finalist for the JHR/CAJ Emerging Indigenous Journalist Award in 2024 and 2026. Outside of journalism, Sav likes to ride their bike just a little too far for comfort and collect vintage toys, physical media and music memorabilia of their favourite bands.
