On June 3, 2022, 30-year-old Addison Hartzler rang 911 in the middle of the night to report a suspected break-in at his Grande Prairie, Alta., home.

Within 10 minutes of arriving on the scene, local RCMP officers arrested Hartzler after finding no burglar. Officers later told Hartzler’s father that he had been taken into custody for public mischief and had been acting in a “psychotic and delusional manner.”
