Non-profit World Animal Protection updated its lobbying registration to ask for policy support to move whales to a sanctuary in a bay off the coast of Port Hilford, N.S. The charity said it wants the government to support the rescue and transfer of marine animals "retired from the entertainment industry to this or other seaside sanctuaries,” rather than other entertainment venues.
The sanctuary, which will be a 405,000 square metre section of Port Hilford Bay, will host whales and dolphins currently held in entertainment venues. The group behind the initiative, the Whale Sanctuary Project, has its sights set on finding new homes for the whales at Marineland, located in Niagara Falls, Ont.
