A 2024 briefing note in the IJF’s Open by Default database shows the deputy minister of finance inquired about the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)’s process for removing people from the country and the challenges border services might face should removals increase.

While the agency points to its high removal numbers compared to similar countries, experts say the data downplays the fact that most are refugee claimants.
