Dozens of corporations and industry groups registered to lobby the Government of Saskatchewan are also major funders of the political parties they’re trying to influence, according to the IJF’s data analysis.

The IJF compared political party donor rolls and information from Saskatchewan’s lobbyist registry and found more than $55,000 donated in 2025 to the Saskatchewan Party and the Saskatchewan New Democrats came from organizations actively trying to sway government decisions.

Corporate donors from the mining and private health-care industries made the largest contributions, and many of them are tied to major projects and government contracts.

In January, provincial officials and representatives from Canadian Energy Metals (CEM) announced the discovery of 6.8 billion tonnes of alumina, the key component in aluminum, near Tisdale, Sask., which they say has the potential to be as important for the province economically as potash or uranium.

CEO Christopher Hopkins said the alumina discovery was made in 2022. CEM first registered to lobby Saskatchewan’s government on energy and environmental matters related to a “research product opportunity” in Jan. 2023.

CEM donated $3,500 to the Saskatchewan Party in 2024 and $3,368 in 2025, according to data from Elections Saskatchewan.

Hopkins has also been among the top individual donors to the party, contributing about $11,300 between 2022 and 2025.

CEM has been represented by two consultant lobbyists from Prairie Sky Strategies, June Draude and Kevin Doherty, both of whom were previously Saskatchewan cabinet ministers. Doherty is also a director on CEM’s executive board.

Cameco, one of two companies responsible for producing all of Canada’s uranium, is registered to lobby the government on a number of subject matters related to its operations. Party financial statements show Cameco gave $1,789 to the Saskatchewan Party in 2025, and more than $7,000 to the NDP. In previous years, Cameco has tended to put more money into the Saskatchewan Party, including giving $5,385 in 2023 and $7,360 in 2020, while giving only a few hundred dollars to the NDP each year.

In May, the IJF reported that Clearpoint Health Network donated $5,000 to the Saskatchewan Party while lobbying “to provide surgical services to allow individuals access to publicly funded surgeries that complement the public health-care system.”

Similarly, Bayshore Healthcare donated $3,250 to the Saskatchewan Party last year. Lobbying records show the company has been meeting with provincial health officials to “discuss new and innovative models of homecare.”
