Google Canada, Vector Institute, Bell Canada, Cohere and Photonic reported meeting with AI Minister Evan Solomon during his first month in office. Four of those organizations are domestic AI providers, and all five wanted a say in shaping AI policies in Canada.

According to the Liberal Party’s election platform, Solomon’s job includes leading the government’s adoption of AI and encouraging private companies to start using AI technology. In a keynote speech last week, Solomon said he will focus more on unlocking the economic benefits of the technology rather than regulating risks through data and privacy regulation.
