Interested in volunteering with the Investigative Journalism Foundation? We’re a nonprofit media outlet building a new model for Canadian media. We are digital-first, radically transparent and laser-focused on serving the public and speaking truth to power. You can read more about who we are and what we’re building here.
Right now we’re looking for volunteers who want to help us build public interest databases. We’re focusing on three databases: One on who donates to politicians nationwide, one on who lobbies them, and one revealing detailed financial information for charities.
We’re looking for volunteers to help us scrape government websites, clean data and analyze it, for every province and territory. Developers, as well as lovers of research and statistical sciences, are particularly likely to be a good fit.
We believe volunteering should be a mutually beneficial experience. Some of our volunteers are senior folks who want to flex their teaching and mentoring muscles. Others are junior folks looking to learn new coding skills. No matter what, it’s important to us that volunteers get something back.
