A growing number of Toronto residents feel the city’s police officers are not doing their jobs, according to data from Ontario’s police complaints agency. In two years, “neglect of duty” allegations against Toronto police have more than doubled, from 76 in 2020 to 183 in 2022.
In Ontario, citizens can report police officers for neglect of duty when they allegedly have not fulfilled their responsibilities under the Ontario police code of conduct. This can include not complying with internal investigations, disobeying orders, or improper conduct while on duty.
