Microsoft reported lobbying Oz Jungic, a senior policy adviser in the prime minister’s office, about “policies or programs as they relate to the development and applications of artificial intelligence and the ethical use of artificial intelligence, including facial recognition technology.” 

While Canada has never implemented a law to regulate the use of AI for facial recognition specifically, in October 2019 the RCMP started using facial recognition software from U.S. tech company Clearview AI for investigations.
