The founder of a B.C.-based cryptocurrency business and the platform he used to defraud his customers have been ordered to pay $18.4 million in penalties and restitution.
David Smillie, who diverted nearly $13 million in bitcoin and ether from his ezBtc platform to gambling sites and personal accounts, was found to have committed fraud by a panel of the B.C. Securities Commission (BCSC) earlier this year.
