Hundreds of employees of Canadian charities were paid more than $350,000 each for their work last year, but the limited data collected by tax officials makes it nearly impossible to get a clear picture of compensation in the upper echelons of the sector.
An analysis of the records in the IJF’s Charity Staff Compensation database shows that in 2023, 346 registered charities paid at least one person more than $350,000 — the maximum salary range on their tax returns. In all, at least 796 workers hit that threshold, although the true number is likely much higher.
