Monique Kasonga is a Montreal-based investigative journalism intern. She is a recent BA graduate from McGill University in History and Political Science with a minor in Communication Studies. Her academic interests explore the intersections of media, public policy, and the historical role of women in journalism.

Originally from Toronto, Monique lives between both cities, where she has gained experience in research and reporting. She worked as an associate research producer at Radio-Canada Toronto on their summer radio programs, and her work has been published in The Montreal Gazette. At McGill, she served as an Opinion Editor at The Tribune, a senior editor for the African Studies Student Association journal, and a research assistant to a history professor.

She is currently an 1834 Foundation Fellow, supporting her growth in media and civic engagement.

When she’s not working, you can find her lying in a park with an iced matcha, crafting the perfect playlist, or reading James Baldwin.
