Alan Wei

Research & Development Associate

Alan Wei worked as a research assistant at Stanford University, the University of Miami and the University of Toronto before joining the Investigative Journalism Foundation. A current master’s student in electrical and computer engineering at the University of Toronto, Alan is passionate about the applications of Graph Neural Networks and Large Language Models. At Stanford University, he investigated a new approach for rare disease causal gene detection using Heterogeneous Graph Neural Networks.

At the University of Toronto, he developed his interest in social science and well-being, more specifically, which led to joining the IJF in the effort to strengthen Canadian democracy by leveraging his expertise in AI.

In his spare time, Alan loves photography, trying out new food, playing pickleball, and snowboarding during the winter.
