S&C Electric, a U.S.-based company that provides equipment and services for electric power systems, registered to lobby Ontario “in support of the Fortress Am-Can policy.”
Fortress Am-Can was proposed by Ontario Premier Doug Ford in January, in light of tariff threats from U.S. President Donald Trump. The plan suggests breaking up traditional three-way free-trade partnerships between Mexico, Canada and the United States in favour of a “renewed strategic alliance between America and Canada.” According to Ford, Mexico has become a “backdoor for cheap Chinese parts and products.” He said the country must stop transporting Chinese goods through its borders or lose “its seat at the table.”
